The Heebie-jeebies

I’m on Facebook three times one day, and every time I go to a specific screen, a particular advertisement shows up on the top right side; smaller than a wallet sized picture, but very distracting. I’m grossed out, but see that it's an ad for a massage (I think), then ignore it and move on.

Later, I check back in and there it is again! On the third visit of the day, I realize it has an exit square and I click it. Poof! It’s gone. But, a window comes up to ask what I don’t like about the ad. I type, “It gives me the heebie-jeebies.”

The ad shows a picture of a man’s back in a horizontal position. On it is nine triangular shaped black spots – four sets – one on the right and a matching spot the left, and then a single spot at his center lower back.

I’m itching right now just thinking about it.

I wonder if the advertisement is working for the company. It didn’t work for me because I don’t know whose company is represented. But on the other hand, if I see it again, I’ll probably look before clicking it away, therefore, its name will enter my head and the company will achieve its goal.

Another thing that causes me nausea is a “used” bandage – not a big wrap type – just one of those little beige Band Aid types. Seeing it in a waste basket, on a street or floor, and especially floating in a pool, really creeps me out. Ugh! It doesn’t even have to have the underside, body fluid part exposed; it just does something to me.

All you psychologists out there – can you explain this strange mental condition? Or, anyone else care to take a crack at it? :)

What grosses you out?

What grosses me out. Not much. Being around pooping horses alot lately has me pretty numb to most everything. Come to think of it, after having babies I lost a lot of the gross out times.

Oh yeah...the used bandages. Even if I KNOW it was mine and I see it on the floor...eww. In a pool?! I'd be out and in the shower.

And blow out diapers...they still get to me. They get to my husband worse though so that's ALWAYS amusing to listen to that diaper change--I have to listen from the other room so he doesn't see me laughing.

Dirty public wash rooms gross me out big time. I'd rather hold and wait until I get home...

Sanitary napkins that have been thrown away and not properly wrapped in tissue or in those plastic wrappers that the new ones are wrapped in. I see it a lot here-used sanitary napkins laying in the waste basket (in public restrooms) unwrapped, face up. Yep, that tops my list of grossness. Ugh, just grossed myself out writing this! Number two on the list is hair clogging the drain in the spa shower...yuck.

There are thousands of phobias listed in medical dictionary. 'Band-aid phobia'is not new, juxtapose to 'garbage' or a 'bug' phobia. It is not just about liking or unlinking things.Shirt button in muddy garbage grosses me, otherwise being a practicing doctor I come across more disgusting things in daily work.

The bandaids not so much but hair in the drain or wrapped around my toes grosses me out big time!!!

Plus, going into a bathroom stall to see that someone hasn't flushed!

What grosses me out is people sticking things, even fingers, even the glaucoma testing equipment, into their eyes.

Anita, because I can't be the only one who doesn't use facebook, would you ever consider posting about what you use it for or what the attraction is? I'd so love to understand facebook and twitter. Thanks for considering.

HELLO EVERYONE, thanks for further grossing me out...just kidding! Actually, I got some really good laughs from your "gross out" situations.

JITURAJGOR-Is that a shirt button, as in, from an item of clothing? If so, that's a new one. :)

PJ - I might just do the Facebook post. Hmmm...

ROBIN - I can't leave a comment on your blog. Is the problem on my end or yours.
By the way, did you intentionally get rid of the other blog, or by accident?

THANKS EVERYONE...OTHER FOLLOWERS AND READERS, TELL ME MORE. I CAN TAKE IT!

Yes I don't find out a reason behind it yet, but any kind of cloth button abandoned from the cloth grosses me out. Especially when it is in muddy, wet garbage. 'Button phobia' is not new. listed in dictionary, in one high pick case, person is using Velcro instead of button in all his and her girlfriends cloths.Funny but real.

Eeek! Actually I get grossed out easily too. I could never be a nurse, although I admire them so much.

Public restrooms are my number one pet peeves. Love to travel but I do take my Lysol.

I hate some of those ads. There is one that says Obama wants Moms to go back to school, and every once in a while they take out the womans picture and replace it with a scary looking man...I always get the heebie jeebies with that one

What grosses me out and amazes me is when I try to use a public restroom and all the seats have been pee'd on. How do women manage to pee all over the seat?

So now I guess that Madison Avenue is using us to develop and test their ads? EGad!

LOL I'm with you!
Pics that freak me out...gross teeth!

Anita said...

HEY EVERYBODY, these are really funny...teeth, mouths, eyes...
Yeah JEN, I would think that women (even girls) should know how to squat and aim straight. SUZICATE, I've seen those Obama/Moms/School ads too-a LOT!
TABOR, You're right, the kids sitting around the advertising table are having big fun trying to figure out how to get a reaction from us...its working.

FOLLOWERS AND READERS, KEEP COMMENTING!

People who absently pick at their fingernails .. or worse toenails gross me out.

As I'm reading this, I'm thinking, it's a good thing you have all girls! Looking back, I shoul've bought stock in Band Aids.

I probably was grossed out by something before I had kids, but I just don't remember anymore.

I agree with Cindy---spitting on sidewalks is disgusting. Also---having the "pleasure" of cleaning up the remains of something your cat got. I had to do that the other morning. They had caught a mouse and basically played with it till it died and they did NOT want to let their plaything go!! It was totally disgusting.
